December 10-11, 2011 - 50s Trailblazers Weekend

50s Trailblazers Weekend

December 10-18, 2011 - Snowboard Celebration Week

Stratton and snowboarding have a long history together, dating all the way back to the very beginnings of the sport. Legend says that Jake Burton developed his boards here at Stratton, hiking Suntanner and riding Stratton by moonlight. Stratton was one of the first resorts to formally welcome snowboards on the hill, later becoming the home of the US Open and Olympic medalists Ross Powers and Lindsay Jacobellis.

Join us this year as we celebrate the sport, the culture, and the launch of Burton’s new learning program, Experience Snowboarding with a week of on-snow demos, clinics with pros and movies. It all kicks off on December 10 with a moonlight hike up Suntanner – just as Jake Burton did when he was crafting his first snowboard.

Saturday, December 10
CLINIC - Small Flat Boxes, 2-3 pm – Free, meet at the Snowsports School at 1:45 pm.

Full Moon Hike, 7 pm – Following in Jake Burton’s steps, we’ll hike up Suntanner and ride down. Register in the east wing of the Base Lodge between 5:30 and 6:50 pm, hike starts at 7.

After-Hike Party and Movie Premiere, 8 pm – Head to Grizzly’s for a refreshing beverage and snacks and see this year’s Burton film, “Standing Sideways”.

Sunday, December 11
Junkyard Jam, 11:15 am – Jib and slide all over features you would usually find abandoned in the trash, carefully recycled and reused for awesomeness! A $20 entry fee gets you the chance to take home the first-place cash prize of up to $600. Registration is from 3 - 4:30 pm in the Overflow Room in the base lodge. Open to the first 32 riders, helmet and S.E.S. pass required.

DJ Joe Bell, 3-6 pm – Head to Grizzly’s for après snowboard with one of the hottest DJ’s around!

Saturday, December 17
Experience Snowboarding Grand Opening – Stop by the new Experience Snowboarding building for a day of free clinics, a mini jam and to check out the Experience Snowboarding lounge. Help us kick off this all-new and Stratton exclusive snowboarding program. We’re near the gondola, and an easy walk to the Waffle Cabin for mid-day refreshment. An after party at the Burton store will feature raw footage from the jam and a movie premiere!

Experience Snowboarding Mini Jam, 11:15 am – ‘Cause this is what it’s all about! Free to participate, just be sure to register at the Experience Snowboarding building (near the gondola) between 9:30 and 10:30 am. Helmets and S.E.S. passes required.

Burton Snowboards Demo Day – Shred the mountain on Burton’s new 2012 equipment during this on-snow demo day!

CLINIC, Creative Flatland Freestyle, 2-3pm – Free, meet at the Snowsports School at 1:45 pm.
