Barrows House is your Vermont inn for all seasons and for all reasons. Our unique facilities and extensive grounds make us a special place for a family gathering, a wedding, a small business meeting or a spur-of-the-moment vacation.
The feeling is that of a time gone by, yet with modern conveniences that make a visit to our inn completely comfortable. There is a story to every Barrows House room or cottage: each furnished in its own restful style with antiques, family pieces and modern bedding! Each of our houses has its own sitting room, porch or terrace; several have fireplaces, all have air conditioning.
The glowing hearth in our main inn living room and cozy the library-look of our fully licensed Tavern provide all the opportunity one could desire for companionship or privacy.
Barrows House is open year round with every season offering its special attraction in Southern Vermont and the inn. In spring, summer and early fall, our own pool and two tennis courts are available for your enjoyment and bicycles can be borrowed for leisurely rides around Dorset and through the Mettowee River Valley.
Nearby Manchester offers a dazzling array of shopping adventures and a challenging 18-hole golf course for the serious golfer. Horseback riding and trout fishing on the famed Battenkill and Mettowee Rivers are found close by, and hiking trails abound throughout the area. In winter, the downhill runs of Bromley and Stratton are within a short drive, and we strongly recommend the special pleasures to be found in ski touring. A wide variety of trails and terrains are available within a short distance. Our sauna will be ready with a warm welcome when you return.
Whatever your pleasure...the pursuit of antiques, enjoying a production at the Dorset Playhouse, an exhibit at the Southern Vermont Art Center, auctions, flea markets, the breathtaking colors of Vermont's fall foliage...you will always find a warm reception at Barrows House.

With our cozy Tavern, bright Greenhouse room and Dorset Dining Room--hand-painted with a mural of Dorset Historical Landmarks--groups of many sizes can be accommodated. The American regional cuisine features fresh local ingredients presented with our signature flair.

The Ceremony We make it our goal to help you create the country wedding you've been dreaming of since you were a girl. Imagine the scent of summer gardens and a romantic ceremony in our gazebo, surrounded by your family and friends...or exchange vows privately in front of the fireplace in our historic Main Inn. From small intimate gatherings to festive outdoor affairs you can be sure that no detail will be overlooked.
The Reception When you combine our storybook setting with our acclaimed American regional cuisine you have the foundation for a truly memorable occasion. We have several sample menus for you to peruse to get an idea of what's possible, but each reception is unique and we'll happily discuss additional options for your event. Our Reception and Event Pricing Guidelines is posted for your convenience. Our green house dining room and cozy tavern are suited for gatherings of up to 75 people with a dance floor, or up to 100 people without dancing. Outdoor receptions can accommodate 50-220 guests.
Guest Lodging Our unique property of eight historic buildings on eleven park-like acres provides an ideal setting for a variety of groups and families. Our deluxe rooms and suites each offer gathering places for party-goers to get together throughout their stay.
