WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN SUMMER ACTIVITIES
DOWNHILL : Hey mountain bikers! Why go anywhere else? Whiteface Mountain Bike Park has 27 diverse trails that range from hardcore expert only downhillers, to cruisers, to winding cross-country paths—something for every ability and riding style. Whiteface also has the greatest vertical drop in the East, so there's a lot of room to roll here.
From the summit of Little Whiteface, which you reach via a stunningly beautiful ride in the Cloudsplitter Gondola, trails are expert-only. Big bikes, helmets and full pads are the norm here. So are tight turns, big rocks and steep drops. Expect each run to take about 40 minutes.
For intermediate and beginner riders, our shuttle bus, which runs twice an hour, will take you and your bike from the base up to a drop-off point where you can choose from a selection of trails that match your ability.
CROSS COUNTRY : Cross Country Mountain Biking doesn't get much more fun, invigorating, thrilling (and, did we say fun?) than it does here at the Olympic Sports Complex. We have more than 30 km of trails that climb, dip and twist through pristine stands of Adirondack hardwood and sky-scraping pines. If you're a veteran trail rider, you'll find plenty to challenge you: all the jumps, steeps and sharp turns you could want and terrain that varies from open meadows to single-track, secluded forest.
And if you're new to the sport, this is the perfect place to get started. Our trail system has plenty of mileage to offer riders of all levels. The staff at our teaching center, where the motto is "Fun, not Fear," will show you everything from how to get the most out of your bike to how to conquer hills safely. You'll build confidence, learn new skills, surprise yourself by what you're now capable of doing on two wheels, and come away from your lesson with a new love for a new sport. Bring your own bike or rent one from us.
DISC GOLF : Not that there's anything wrong with golf, but perfecting that swing—it's a commitment. Disc Golf, on the other hand, is just a lot of fun, and it's catching on around the country and around the world. Like golf, it gets you outside with your friends and family. Unlike golf, it doesn't take years to learn. Players follow the course around the bottom sections of some favorite Whiteface ski trails, throwing Frisbee-like discs from one "hole" to the next, usually about 250 feet away. Grab your friends and give it a try.
Disc golf is inexpensive, environmentally friendly, fun and accessible for all ages and athletic ranges. Therefore, it attracts a diverse range of players. Come experience disc golf and see why this fast growing sport is now played throughout the United States and more than 20 other countries worldwide.
Our nine-hole course utilizes the lower portion of Whiteface. It meanders on some of our favorite trails including Lower Valley, Round About, Boreen, Mixing Bowl, and many more. Tour experience will begin and conclude at the Facelift.

ABOUT WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN SKI AREA
With the biggest vertical drop in the East it is easy to miss the gentler side of Whiteface Mountain. Easy Acres is a separate mountain, lodge, and ski school for families, kids and beginning skiers and riders. The Gondola transports guests to the summit of Little Whiteface and serves over 2400 vertical feet alone. The glades and the slides provide a wonderful experience for experts. And the towns of Lake Placid and Wilmington will charm everyone in your family. The total winter experience comes together at Whiteface.
Whiteface opened Lookout Mountain last season located between the Slides and Kids Kampus. Lookout Mountain features the Lookout Mountain Triple Chair, Intermediate trail "The Wilmington Trail" a 2.1 mile cruiser and two expert trails "Hoyt's High" and "Lookout Below" a narrow steep bump trail for thrill seekers. This season at lokout Mountain a new glade area is expected to open The Sugar Valley Glades a 25 acre expert area off of the Wilmington Trail.
When you get to the top of Whiteface, you'll be at the top of Northeast skiing. No ski mountain in the east reaches higher than ours. Around you, dozens of Adirondack peaks jut into the horizon. The fresh air filling your lungs has just blown over a protected park larger than Yellowstone and Yosemite, combined. And below you lie trails that have led Olympic athletes to glory. American Phil Mahre won silver here in the 1980 Games. AJ Kitt and Thomas Vonn have trained here.
Whiteface opened in 1958 and has earned its place in the annals of big-mountain skiing. It has the greatest vertical drop in the east, which means if pointing the boards downhill is your thing, you'll have plenty of opportunities. We regularly stage major national and international events, yet welcome first-time skiers every day. We have 85 runs (a third of which are rated for experts), 11 lifts including a gondola, terrain parks, adrenaline-pumping, between-the-trees skiing and six mountainside restaurants. Whiteface is the Olympic Mountain, which means not only can you carve the same turns as the world's best racers, you can visit the other Olympic facilities, like the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex and the Olympic Sports Complex, just down the road.
Whiteface stands tall, but it's within reach of skiers and riders of all levels. Our Kids Kampus provides a safe, fun place for families who are just learning to set an edge. And our Snowsports Pros are here to help people of all ages and abilities hone their skills and become as good as they want to be.
This is a place that has brought the best out of world-class athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, all-mountain skiers and riders and beginners for years. It's your turn.
Whiteface/Lake Placid ranked #1 in North America for off-hill activities 16 years in a row! Off site activities include bobsled and luge rides, cross country skiing, speed skating, public skating, and the Olympic museum- all in the Lake Placid area, and run by the Olympic Regional Development Authority.
There is no on-site lodging available at Whiteface Mountain. Lodging is available in Wilmington and in near by Lake Placid. You will find a wide range of accommodations from Four Star Luxury Hotels to more traditional Adirondack Rustic Lodges where you can warm up with friends over a hot cup of coffee, or just lounge by the fireplace with a game of poker, board games, or any other family favorites. Don't forget to take advantage of great shopping and dining too!
